On Friday, Dan played tour guide with Tucker and showed us some of the city.
Girls at the Korean War Memorial. These faces are etched into the stone.
The other side of the Korean Memorial. Kind of haunting huge soldier statues.
The Lincoln Memorial. I had no idea how huge it was!
Don't they look thrilled to be posing for another picture. I couldn't believe how big this was! View on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial looking out onto the Mall towards the Washington Monument. Thank goodness we found a good parking spot this day. We were going to have to walk this length.
Another memorial. . .
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This was very moving. There was a gentleman there in a wheelchair with his family. He reached up and touched a name and just sobbed.
It's in an almost L shape.
Just a random picture of us walking, but I thought the clouds against the Washington Monument were amazing.
Alyssa's turned out better. She's holding the Washington Monument in her hand.
Next we headed over to the American History Museum. We saw the original Star Spangled Banner as in the flag. It was huge, but we couldn't take pictures. Definitely beat up. All I could think of was, "My Dad would love this!" He loves the flag. They also had a really neat exhibit of the dresses of several of the First Ladies. It was so neat to see how fashion has changed over time. There were also samples from their china sets.
This is my cute nephew Tucker who joined us that day. Another ice cream stop to keep us going. This kid cracks me up and is adorable. He's kind of like Mackenzie in that he is kind of in his own world sometimes and you wonder what he is thinking. On the other hand he'll be talking away about all kinds of things sometimes. I tried to convince him to come home with me for a few weeks and he said, "My mom would miss me too much." True words. . .
