Once we told the girls we would let them get the cowgirl hats, that was the first order of business so we went traipsing up and down the aisles to find just the right ones. Alyssa and Mackenzie really wanted the light up crowns on theirs so as luck would have it we marched back outside to the first one's we saw on the way in. I love that they each picked individual colors. By the time we got the hats it was time for our early lunch to beat the crowds. Our plan worked and it was hardly busy at all. Ben and I got BBQ pork and beef sandwiches and the girls pizza.
Kira enjoying her lunch.
You can't really see the sign or the cow, but the girls thought it was funny that the cow was named Mona. Last year we saw a cow named Alyssa. What's next?
Kira didn't like being close to any of the animals, least of all this huge pig. The girls love looking at all the animals especially the baby pigs and sheep that are just days old.
Petting a giant bunny.
Mackenzie was the only one that wanted to go in the petting zoo. She was a little apprehensive to really touch the animals, but she liked being in there.
Enjoying an afternoon Hawaiian Ice break. It wasn't even that hot, but this has become another tradition. We even timed it right and watched an animal show.
Then we had to check out this farm area outside. Even Tori didn't mind joining us. The girls all went to different stations to learn about products we get from farming. First was pretending to plant seeds. Then the kids would pick out a vegetable and put it in their bucket. Next was playing in the corn seeds. Then they'd pick up a pretend ear of corn and add it to their bucket. Then we went to pretend to milk the cow. Some pretty good farmers.
Maybe we should get a cow. . . Then my kids could help get all the milk they drink?
At the end of the exhibit, the kids could turn in the farm products they had collected in their bucket and "sell" them to the store. They got pretend money and could buy a little treat at the end. They loved it.
On the way out, we ran into the Chick-fil-A cows and got little squishy toy hast. They were a big hit, and we didn't even have to play any games!
We had a great day and will definitely continue our Texas tradition!
