Washington D.C. Trip Day 6 -Monday

The next day of our trip we were excited to go inside the Washington Monument.  It had been closed for repairs the last time we visited D.C.  It was a really hot day and we had arrived a little early for our ticket time.  We decided to stroll over to the White House to take a quick look again.  Many things in D.C. look like they're close, but when you walk 4 blocks in the sweltering heat you get pretty worn out.  Grandma had an incident where she felt dizzy and suddenly sat down.  All of a sudden we could see she was passing out.  There were so pretty scary moments as we tried to get her to talk, drink something and eat something.  We decided that Jill, Dan and Steve would take her back to the house for the day to recover.  Ben, Jill's sister, Natalie, and I headed over to get in line at the Washington Monument.  By this time we were all crazy hot and the sun was just beating down on the kids.
 Poor kids waiting in line.
We finally went on the opposite side of the monument to sit in it's shade.

These were each views from the different sides of the monument.  You went up in this elevator and then could walk around to the 4 sides and look out over all of D.C.  It was beautiful.

After a break for lunch we met up with Dan and Steve who came back.  Judy was doing okay and was resting at home.  So we went forward with our plan to go to the U.S. Mint.  They don't allow you to take any pictures inside so these are from the entrance and the gift shop.  It was a mildly interesting tour.  Not very kid friendly though.

How much our kids are worth!  J/K.  They had this poster of how tall you are in $100 notes.  Of course everyone had to give it a try.
And as if we couldn't fit anything else in we made our way over to the D.C. temple that evening.  This is a beautiful temple with an amazing interactive visitor's center.  The kids had a great time exploring the computers, pretend house display, learning about serving missions etc.  It was a great end to a fun filled day.
