Williamsburg, VA

Ben and I had an opportunity to take a quick trip to Williamsburg, VA for a customer meeting for Ben's work in October.  Judy was kind enough to come and watch the girls for us for a few days.  It was fun to visit this part of the country that is filled with so much history.  We were spoiled for 2 days eating yummy food and enjoying ourselves.
This chocolate gift basket was waiting in our room.

On Thursday, our group took a tour of Colonial Jamestown, VA.  This is a replica of one of the ships that brought the first settlers to Jamestown, VA as well as John Smith.
There were 3 boats.  The settlers, all male, had to stay below deck on top of barrels and equipment which was about a 3 foot space. We sat and listened to one of the tour guides for about half an hour discuss some of the political details of how the war between England and Spain impacted the settlement.  We found it fascinating and could have listened for hours.
This gentleman worked in the artillery building in the fort and shot his gun every 1/2 hour.
 The blacksmith shop.
One of the huts at the replica Indian village.  It was filled with skins and authentic tools and baskets.
Pocahantas would have lived in one of these huts.  The detail was amazing.  It was filled with skins, cots and all the things that the Indians would have had.

In the afternoon we were able to go to the gun range.  We took a quick safety class at the beginning and the instructor had me rethinking my desire to shoot a gun!  He showed us pictures of someone who had shot a hole through their foot and told us stories how a woman took off the top of her thumb because she held a gun wrong.  It scared me and the other women to death!  I summoned up the courage and with Ben's help we went into the room.  After a little while I realized there was no way I would shoot myself in the foot.  I was too nervous around that gun.  I'd load it and then set it down.  It was fun to practice, and Ben said I did pretty good for a beginner.

Overall we had a great couple of days and it was fun to get away together!
